The purpose of the fan motor is to help circulate the cold air over the evaporator coils in your fridge. If a loud noise is coming from the fridge or the temperature inside is too warm, then the fan is probably defective.

When the fan is on there will be an audible whirring sound with normal operation, but a loud sound from the fan motor could mean a fault.
